The British Group of Early American Historians will hold its annual conference at the University of Sheffield, 3-6 September, 2015. The program features thirty speakers from across the UK, Europe, North America, and Australia addressing topics in early American history before 1820. Trevor Burnard, University of Melbourne, will deliver a lively keynote, “Planters, Fear, and Slavery in the Coming of the American Revolution” and there will be a “book club” session considering Andrew Beaumont’s, Colonial America and the Earl of Halifax, 1748–1761 (OUP, 2015).
Colleagues and students are all welcome. There is no need to register, unless you want to share in the delights of university catering and the conference dinner on Saturday night – in which case see the uni “shop”.
Level three students!
If you’re thinking about staying on to do an MA – or just curious about what postgraduate study involves – do come along to our open evening in the department on
Monday 24 November, 5-7pm, in Jessop West Exhibition Space.
This is a special event to which all L3 students are warmly invited. There will be opportunities to find about the MA programmes on offer, and to chat to members of staff and current MA students over a glass of wine.
The event will concentrate on the programmes we offer in the department, but if you’re interested in other MAs at Sheffield, or aren’t able to come to the event on the Monday evening, there is a University Postgraduate Open Day later that week, on Thursday 27th November:
If you are planning to come along on Monday 24 November, please complete our booking form to give us an idea of numbers for refreshments and to let us know what programmes you might be interested in:
If you have any questions about the event or about applying for postgraduate courses, do contact the MA Director, Catherine Fletcher or the Postgraduate Support Manager, Beky Hasnip.
