Television News of the Civil Rights Era, 1950-1970
Description
This site aims to collect rare video footage of the Civil Rights era, and currently has about 250 films, ranging from speeches by major politicians like JFK to coverage of the struggle over integration at the grassroots. The archive however goes well beyond contemporary footage and also has a series of oral histories (both in streaming audio and transcribed form) and contemporary political documents. The focus is largely - though not exclusively - on Virginia, where the site is hosted by the state's premier university.
