WikiAmerica:About
From WikiAmerica
Welcome to our American History Wiki
The Sheffield American History Research Wiki is a user-edited website with links to and information about the vast number of digital archives now available to students of American History. The Wiki provides a community resource to help undergraduate and postgraduate students explore primary material and develop research projects. Students add links to collections they have discovered, provide critical commentary on existing websites, and uncover source material to use in essays, dissertations, and theses.
The site collates hyperlinks to the ever-expanding digital archives maintained by libraries, universities, and private websites across the U.S. and Canada. Thanks to the work of these institutions, resources including historical newspapers, census data, political pamphlets, sheet music, novels, cartoons, audio recordings, early Hollywood films, and newsreels are often available in the public domain, but there is no user-edited site directing students to this wealth of material. We anticipate that as it develops the Wiki will become an indispensable resource for the community of American historians in Sheffield at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and faculty level.
Funding for the Wiki was provided through an award from the Centre for Inquiry-based Learning in the Arts and Social Sciences.
